You may be wondering why I'm sending you this email, especially at this time of year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, and Christmass is just two weeks away. Are you also wondering: Where did this year go?

Please allow me to explain... either I've met you personally, and we've exchanged contact details, or I've trained you or one of your colleagues in the use of Google, Joomla!, Moodle, WordPress (or some other technology, where I happened to know more than you at the time) or I've built a website for you, or your company, through Slingshot, my Sole Proprietorship, which has been servicing customers for over 20 years now, or we've been in the same church, club or another social community - anyway, your email address ended up in my contacts - and I hope that you don't mind me including you in these communications, which I trust will be of benefit to you.

Let me tell you that 2024 was a big year for me personally, in that I launched a new company, called Rechargeable, after being retrenched in March from an NPC, where I had been building out a turnkey technology solution, incl. fully loaded Coding & Robotics labs. Our strategy was to resource no-fee and low-fee schools with affordable, sustainable Education Technology (let's call that EdTech for the sake of brevity).
The basic idea was to use donated funds from Corporate Social Responsibility budgets, which transformed the lives of Grade 8-10 students at Forest Heights HS, Rosendaal HS, Vorentoe PS who have been learning how to code and/or begin with robotics. We even completed an entire network upgrade at West Riding PS, who now have WiFi in every classroom.
The plan seemed to be going extremely well, until it wasn't.
We lost our main funder, after they lost some big contracts, and we simply didn't have enough time to pivot back to non-donation based income streams. There was also some disagreement about the mission and vision of the NPC, which were unable to resolve. But that's another tale for another day, which is not this day.
This email is especially for my fellow educators, school mangers and leaders, parents of students in primary and secondary schools, and possibly even for those engaged with college, university or some other form of teaching and learning. This applies to all of you, so do read on!
